Lost, season 2 episode 6: Abandoned
Ok, so I'm back to being a full-scale Lost fan. After a few slow episodes and the show's three-week hiatus, I was starting to worry, but this episode came through with flying colors. Lots of action and suspense. Walt sightings, great flashbacks on Shannon (made you feel sorry for her and understand why caused her to become such a bitter woman). And, of course, the major character death. And a great looking episode previewed for next week. Welcome back, Lost!
Should I get a chance to hit the boards for observations, I'll add more comments to this post. If anyone still happens to browse this blog anymore, feel free to add your own comments as well!

NEW UPDATES:
if people didn't read Kim's comment in this thread, she posted a link for reversed audio of what Walt said. "They're coming and they're close."
11/10 5:15am - are we sure it is a gun wound? Sure we heard a gun shot, and we see Ana-Lucia holding out her gun... but are we SURE that is what killed Shannon? And are we SURE it was Ana-Lucia that shot her? Remember, she's only got one bullet. And also remember there are lots of other handguns and rifles out there, including the one they made a big scene of Sayid putting down in the tent. And why did't Ana-Lucia & company hear Shannon yelling "Walt!" repeatedly at the top of her lungs? For that matter, are we even sure Shannon is dead? After all, Cindy is missing. In typical Lost fashion, what you see very well might not be what it really happening.
Here's a screen shot of Shannon's wound. Doesn't look like a gunshot to me -- at least not a handgun! It's a long gaping slash.

Walt says "They're coming and they're close." Here's a link from someone on the ABC board who reversed the audio. It's the same forwards as it it backwards.

First of all, I'm amazed someone did it so fast. Second of all - CREEPY!
LOST _ S2E6 – “Abandoned”
Sayid builds Shannon her own private tent. When they go inside, Sayid takes his gun out of his belt and puts it down. Sayid leaves the tent without the gun. Shannon sees Walt in the tent. Upset that Sayid doesn’t believe her, Shannon uses Vincent to try to find Walt. Vincent leads Shannon to Boone’s grave. Sayid catches up to her and Shannon tells him that they found the bottle full of messages. During a rain storm, Sayid declares his love for Shannon and tells her that he will never leave her and he believes in her. They both hear voices in the forest and they both see Walt. Shannon runs to Walt and Ana-Lucia accidentally shoots Shannon in the chest. Sayid holds Shannon and gives Ana-Lucia a look of surprise, terror and anger.
Sawyer Quotes
“Tell me, Ponce de Leon, which way are we supposed to go?”
“Yeah, yeah, Chewie. I know. My arm’s about to fall off.”
“You a shrink? You’re gonna talk to my shoulder?”
Flashback
Shannon is 18 years teaching a ballet class for young girls.
There were seven girls on the bar (or whatever it is called).
Did Shannon speak Korean (or another Asian language) to one of the girls?
We know now that Shannon’s father was the guy who was also involved in the car accident that hurt Sarah.
Flashback cross-over: Jack passes by Shannon and her step-mother in the hospital corridor.
At the funeral, we see Boone(!) comfort Shannon. It was great to see him again. He lives in New York.
Shannon used to have a poster of Marky Mark in her room.
Shannon has a teddy bear on her chair in her room (not the same teddy bear as the Others).
Shannon says that she has a 1 in 3000 chance to get that dance internship in New York.
Shannon is having a bowl of Alpha Crunch cereal for breakfast.
Shannon receives an acceptance letter from the Dance Company about her internship.
Shannon’s rent check has bounced because her step-monster has cut off her funds.
Shannon is packing for New York and putting books in a box (did anyone see any titles?).
Boone tries to help Shannon but she refuses his money.
Shannon just wants someone to believe in her.
Claire / Charlie / Locke
Claire feels useless around Aaron.
Charlie is carrying around the Virgin Mary statue – does it still contain the heroin?
Locke was looking at blue piece of cloth, or paper. What was it?
Locke and Charlie play backgammon and Locke subtly asks about the heroin. Charlie says nothing.
The Tailies:
Ana-Lucia explains their fear of the forest to Michael by saying “They came the first night and took 3 of us. Nothing happened for two weeks. Then, they came back and took nine more.”
Ana-Lucia mentions Goodwin – remember he was the guy in the forest with the knife in his chest.
When speaking of the Others, one of the tailies says “Did you see the kid?”
While carrying Sawyer up that big hill, Cindy disappears.
They all hear voices in the forest and Ana-Lucia pulls her gun and yells “Run.”
Hurley / Rose
They share a brief moment on the beach when Hurley asks Rose why she is drying clothes on the beach instead of using the dryer in the hatch. Rose tells him that she doesn’t like the hatch. I did notice that everyone’s clothes looked much cleaner the past couple of episodes.
Questions / Comments:
1. What did Walt say in the tent?
2. What did Walt say in the forest?
3. What did Sawyer say to Michael when he collapses?
4. What did Shannon say to the girl in ballet class? What language was it?
5. Could Shannon not be the one who is “lost forever” but, rather, Cindy?
6. Will Shannon ever find out that Jack worked on Sarah instead of her father at the hospital?
7. Shannon said that she was 21 when the plane crashed (and that was only 48 days ago, or so) and she was 18 when her dad died, that means that the car crash occurred three years ago. And since Sarah had to rehab for two years after her accident, which means that Jack and Sarah were married for a year or less. Hopefully, we will find out what happened to Sarah in an upcoming episode.
8. The cursed numbers were not used anywhere that I saw. There were seven girls in the ballet class, not 8. There were 24 glass blocks in the window of Shannon’s apartment, not 23. Shannon said that she had a 1 in 3000 chance, not 1 in 4000 chance.
This poster always seems to have some interesting theories.

Here's a few snippits.....
THE SECRET DELETED SCENE ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA
The secret scene revealed no startling information. It took place in Shannon’s stepmom’s home during the wake. The stepmom makes a crude comment about how her husband won’t be enjoying beef stroganoff tonight and later makes a callous remark to Shannon about when she is leaving.
AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT
Notice the shot of the black and white pieces of the backgammon chips. Coyly reminding us of the dark vs. light theme of the show. Also Locke rolls double sixes. This is the same role that Walt made when he beat Hurley who supposedly is an excellent player. Is Locke then also kind of special? Well Locke has displayed all kinds of weird abilities from predicting the weather to practically reading minds so yeah I think he is kind of special too.
I am totally hooked again -- it was a really good show last night, although I didn't see the Shannon getting shot thing coming at all (you, my dear husband, did of course).
Already looking forward to next week...I am so glad that this show got me back.
Alan and I liked the show this week as well. I liked the last five minutes more than anything, though! Alan read on a website to slow-mo the previews for next week. We did and saw a woman that looked like Sayid's love interest. You know, the one that he was supposed to kill in prison and later found out that she MIGHT be alive! Hope it's her and she is on the island!!
Извините, что офтоп, попытка разобраться в системе
GREAT EPISODE! I think I might have had to end my viewing until DVD if the show had not grown legs ... This episode walked on Water.
However, I am afraid that Shannon is Dead. I read two articles, NY TIMES and USA TODAY, talking about her knowing since the end of last season and playing along real well. This is a huge disappointment, but maybe will will get to see Sayid KILL Michelle Rodriguez! I HATE HER! LOST has lost its character flow by introducing all these new faces. Next week we get to see what happened to them ... WHO CARES! I know we need to know what happens, but could we please kill off some characters that I am not attached to ... Is that to much to ask?
Anyways, Glad to see we are back to normal with the suspense and mystery.
Planet Out!
