Lost and Heroes

Ok, I am going to be a bad blogger this week. We are moving houses and my pc will be boxed up. Feel free to post your thoughts here. I will say we watched Heroes this week and loved it. Week 2 was a bit slow, but this week was great.

And, we actually did get Lost and it was a great episode. There are boxes EVERYWHERE and we had to watch it on a small tv, and we had to watch it real-time (complete with commercials!) since the tivo was already packed up *gasp*!

Anyhow, this was quite the spooky episode. Here are some random thoughts:

* they know Sawyer as his real name, James

* they know Sun's full name. There's gotta be repurcusions for Sun shooting that girl, especially since we know she's got a boyfriend

* Alex makes an appearance and she wants to help. And she is looking for Carl.

* interesting back-story on Sun's father wanting Jin to kill that guy, and when he doesn't, the guy dies anyhow. Did he jump himself (we see the pearls), or did someone else finish the job?

* loved Sayid's plan to capture two of them and kill the rest. Why two? So he could get the other one to talk. I love episodes with Sayid.

I really wanted to see him and Jin kick some butt, but now they are boatless...

* cool seeing Sawyer set himself up in that fight to feel out each of the others. Then chilling to see Ben watching them discuss the plan.

* So Ben has allegedly lived on the island his whole life?

What else?

Random Thoughts (Flashback events):
1. First off, I love when they have Sun and Jin flashbacks – love that you see part of the story from her point of view and part from his.
2. Sun slept with Jae! NNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not want that to happen. This opens up a bunch of questions: if Sun’s baby is Jae’s, then his death must have occurred about a month before the flight (since they have been on the island for 69 days and Sun is just finding out that she is pregnant); Sun said to Jae that she can’t do this – did she mean that she can’t continue the affair with Jae, or that she cannot sleep with him (maybe they were just laying there together); I wanted to believe last year when Sun told Jin that she had never been with another man but we saw how she lied without remorse to her father about the glass ballerina.
3. I thought when Jin came back from meeting with Sun’s father that Jae’s picture would fall out of the folder but it didn’t. Jin told Sun that he had to go deliver a message but he didn’t say to whom. So, I don’t believe that Sun pushed Jae out the window (she didn’t know where Sun was going). I believe that Jae threw himself out the window in shame because he thought that Jin was hurting him because Jin knew about the affair. Either that, or Jae knew that Jin works for Sun’s father and thought that Sun’s father would tell Jin everything. But also it looked like Jin recognized Jae from before when Sun’s father showed him the picture in the folder. Did Jin work at one of Jae’s hotels as a doorman? Did he run into him before? I’ll have to go back and watch that episode from Season 1. Or does Jin know something about Jae that we don’t know yet. Ohhhhh, the questions. ;-)
4. Okay, another question: Sun was taking English lessons from Jae because she wanted to run away from her husband. But then when Jin comes home from dinner and tells Sun that he has to do something for her father, she says that they could just run away together and start a new life. Was this because she suspected that her father told Jin about Jae, or because Sun knows that Jin sometimes hurts people for her father? So, then at the airport, why does she still seem like she wanted to run away (looked for the taxi, etc.)? Was it because she found out (or suspected) that Jin killed Jae? Or at least was semi-responsible for Jae’s death?
5. Quite the coincidence that Jae landed on Jin’s car. But, hey, this is LOST where anything and everything can happen.

Random Thoughts (Island events):
1. If Juliet is correct when she says that the boat will just travel in circles, why is that? Is it because of the magnetic field? Will we saw Michael and Walt again? Juliet and Colleen have a history and I’m sure it’s juicy.
2. Sayid is going to use one hostage to make the other cooperate – just like Danny shocked Sawyer to make Kate work, and just like Juliet pointing a gun at Kate to make Sawyer drop his gun. And why is it that Kate is always getting caught and made to make the other Losties drop their guns? ;-)
3. Loved the kissing scene with Sawyer and Kate but I hope that the show doesn’t turn sour like it did after Maddie and David kissed on “Moonlighting”? I’m guessing that it won’t. It was a cute scene of them talking between the cages – but we should have guessed that Ben Linus would be watching.
4. Great scene when Kate asked how she was expected to work wearing a dress, and Sawyer forgetting himself and silently agreeing with Danny's lecherous reply, ''You can take it off if you want,'' until Kate's withering gaze caused Sawyer to muster an uppity, hilarious ''How dare you!''
5. Will the Others show Jack more videos from “present day” off the island? I would love to see a news report on the plane crash and how his family (and others) are reacting to it.
6. What is the difference between the “shocker” that needs to be touched to the body and the “shocker” that can shoot a little dart and shock the victim?
7. While Jin and Sayid were up in the trees waiting for the "Others" to show up, how did the "Others" get past them and get on the boat? I didn't see another boat. Did they swim? How did they sneak down the dock? Or is there an underwater hatch that connects the Other’s Camp to Pala Ferry?
8. Another good story will be the store of Alex and Karl. Did Karl get caught being nice (like Alex has been)? Are they boyfriend / girlfriend? Brother / Sister? Does Alex know that Danielle is her mother?
9. On Benjamin Linus: There was a Linus Pauling, a Nobel prize winner who first applied quantum mechanics to chemistry. Additionally, he believed in massive doses of vitamin C for health and long life.

Previews for next week:
1. Desmond naked?
2. Locke on the ground – but he stands up. That’s good. I was afraid that the blast would have hurt (or re-hurt) his legs.
3. Mr. Eko is in trouble and only Locke can save him.
4. Looks like Hurley made it back to camp.
5. Will we see more of the other Losties (Claire, Charlie, etc.)?

Tonight's episode by the numbers:
1516 – Room number where Jin beat up Jae
69 – number of days that the Losties have been on the island
8 – number of games that the Red Sox won in a row to win the World Series (counting the ALCS and the World Series best of seven format)

Sawyer Names
Kate – “Freckles”, “Shortcake”
Danny – “Boss”

A couple more things:
(1) I mention Danny in my prior blog (I thought I heard some other Others call him that) but the write-ups say that his name is Pickett. After some research, I found that his complete name is Danny Pickett.

(2) When the Others boarded the sailboat, why were their clothes not dripping with water? Were they in a boat that we did not see?

The Sawyer-Kate kiss could have been that Sawyer wanted to provoke the OTHERS to test them to see how they fight (as evidenced by his later comments.) Sawyer the con man is probably a very good judge of character.

The Jae-Sun story kills the idea that her miracle pregnancy came from the island just like how Rose was cured seemingly by the island.

The scene where Jin talks to the father of Sun and he tells him basically that he can never quit. This is in agreement with the scene at the airport where Jin meets the man who is following him.

The OTHERS had no idea about Desmond's boat. They are not so all knowing as we have been led to believe. Do they then not know that Desmond is even there? As for knowing who's who, the most likely explanation is that since they have contact with the outside world that they got a hold of the passenger list - a not too hard thing to get a hold of especially if the influential Hanso foundation is involved.

CHILDREN OF THE CORN
The children of the corn theory got a boost this week when Ben admitted that he had lived his entire life on the island. Here is a quick recap of this theory. The OTHERS are children of the DHARMA group. Their parents became infected with some kind of disease on the island and the children had to kill them. The children then grew up by themselves on the island and therefore had to teach themselves right from wrong, manners and other adult principles. This is why children are so dear to them. The OTHERS then are sort of like children in adult bodies. This is also why they know the island very, very well because they have been there all of their lives.

For the first time ever, we learn that the OTHERS do indeed have contact with the outside world. The big question that Jack asked is why they do not leave the island. There are two possible answers: they are unwilling to leave or they are unable to leave. Let us look at each case in detail.

UNWILLING TO LEAVE
The island is their home. They do not want to leave. We all have a sense of home wherever we are from. Also if you look at OTHERville things are not so bad there from the looks of it. They have modern homes with electricity and even a book club. They do not have to pay taxes. Another possibility is that they are unwilling to leave because they are all working on trying to find a cure to this mysterious disease and they will not leave until they do. This is why they refer to themselves as the good guys as Ben did to Michael and Connie mentioned to Sun just before Sun shot her. They may even be working with the Hanso foundation who supplies them.

UNABLE TO LEAVE
If the OTHERS are carriers of the mysterious disease then they may be unable to leave because they would infect the rest of the world. Remember what Danielle said about when she had to shoot her friends. She said she could not just let them leave the island. The reason was because they were infected so she killed them like the OTHERS had to do to their parents. This would sort of make the island like some kind of leper colony. The one wrinkle with this theory is that Ben seems to indicate that he will personally take Jack home of he cooperates. If he did that then he would have to leave the island. Of course he could be lying. The OTHERS did make a deal to let Michael and Walt go. Did you notice that Jack seems to doubt this. Jack may not believe that he let them go. The character of Michael has not disappeared from the cast pictures on the ABC website. That may be cheating but it should indicate that we will see him again.

I totally missed this reference. Found it on another board.

Ben told Jack about the Red Sox winning the World Series because of the saying that Jack's father always used - "That's Why the Sox will never win the Series." This was Jack's fathers excuse for when things wouldn't go his way or if something negative happened to him. So, by revealing that the Sox DID win the Series, Jack will look at the world a little differently. THEY WERE NOT JUST SHOWING THE PROGRESSION OF TIME!

LOST

Excellent! You guys/gals always seem to bring more variables to the equation. THANK YOU!

My assumption: The Others have to have both communication and assistance from the outside. How else could they have the newest applicances in the hatch? Where do they get their food ... I have yet to see any farms or facilities that produce peanut butter and jelly? Explain that ...

Did anyone follow "The LOST Experience" over the summer on the Internet? Apparantly it revealed some major clues as to what is going on in the "real" world that impacts the island of LOST. Entertainment Weekly's Doc Jenson covered if over the summer, but I have not had time to filter through it.

HEREOS

Holy Cow! The last scene was ground-breaking television. How in the world is she going to explain that ... HA!

I am now a huge fan of the villan ... what is his name, Syrus? However, HIRO is still my favorite.

Until next time ...

Brice
