The theory you posted yesterday seems to make sense. Well, "make sense" in a Lost sort of way. I also saw this on the tv.com Lost forums. This would also explain why Desmond said "I'm preparing for a trip around the world."

Also, don't know if anyone mentioned this or not, but I went back and watched the episode last night and in the beginning of the show when Desmond wakes up, it appears that there is sunlight coming through his windows. However, when he hears the hatch door explode and before he looks through the parascope thing, he flips some sort of switch to make it dark "outside". Obviously artificial sunlight (mirrors?) which would also tie in with that theory.
