Lost, Episode 2x22: Three Minutes
Well, this wasn't an "oh, wow!" episode, but it definitely sets up for a wild finale next week. As usual, we watched it starting at 9:30pm, so it is way too late for me to browse the message boards too long (dang 5am alarm clock!), but here's some random thoughts. Be sure to check back and read the comments, because people like Jim and Kim post some really good stuff. And for the multitudes of others who read this stuff, stop lurking and post some comments!
Update 5/18 6am: the MSNBC recap is online now.
Update 5/18 11am: the Entertainment Weekly recap is now online, too.
* Good to see Charlie and Claire starting to make up. Interesting about the vaccines. Still have no idea what that really is, and why you need it every 9 days.
* Neat to see Charlie throw away all the statuettes. And what's up with Vincent always playing a big role when he's around? Hope they don't need any of that stuff for more pain killers later!
* Charlie is definitely annoyed at Eko's decision to abandon the church because "I am supposed to do something different now.". And how about Eko's chat with Michael about the boy confessing to killing the dog?
* How touching was it that Sawyer opened up to Jack and called him "the closest thing I have to a friend"? Funny stuff with the "we got caught in a net" references.
* How was Michael using his compass? I thought the magnetic interference made that not work? Or was it a clue to the reference in the Hanso commercial of the week, http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com.
* So the flashback to when the Others captured Michael and Kate and got the guns from Locke, Jack and Michael shows that there really weren't a bunch of Others surrounding them and lighting those torches. Another deception.
* We again see Alex and see that she does care for the losties (asking about Claire and the baby), but still follows the Others' rules (knocks Michael out)
* So who is Ms. Klugh and where does she fall in the Other's hierarchy?
* Walt telling Michael "They're pretending". Is this another elaborate setup, much like the boat incident where Kate later found the costumes?
* What is "the Room" that Ms. Klugh threatens Walt with returning to? What tests have they had him taking? Interesting her asking Michael if Walt has appeared in places he shouldn't be. Could those have been tests when he appeared to Shannon those times?
* From what we see so far, Michael is telling the truth about what he's seen with the camp. He might have ulterior motives, but he really did only see two guys with guns.
* Why did Michael kill Ana Lucia? It is now evident he didn't have to.
* Why do the Others want only Jack Shephard, Kate Austen, James Ford and Hugo Reyes? And how do they know full names, as well as the fact James=Sawyer? And does Michael really know Hugo=Hurley? And if unHenry came for Locke, why isn't he listed?
* Love the Sayid twist and what that might bring.
* Locke can walk again. The island's healing at work again? Remember that after his injury he was on the beach talking to Rose and told her it would probably take him about 4 weeks to heal, to which she replied "We both know it won't take that long."
* What's the sailboat?
Next week's 2-hr finale:
Episode 2x23: "Live Together, Die Alone"
After discovering something odd just offshore, Jack and Sayid come up with a plan to confront "The Others" and hopefully get Walt back. Meanwhile, Eko and Locke come to blows as Locke makes a potentially cataclysmic decision regarding the "button" and the hatch, on the season finale of "Lost".

Random Thoughts (Flashback events):
1. Second Island flashback story this season (first one was Claire’s). Will we see an Island flashback episode with Walt?
2. Kevin – I had the same question you had about the compass. How reliable is it?
3. Did everyone notice that the Others were all barefoot? Does this help them not leave tracks as much? Seems like it would slow them down in the jungle.
4. We have a new hatch. The logo looks like a vertical rectangle. Do they have a computer in there? Other video monitors?
5. What are they going to do with Michael’s blood? Can they confirm Michael is Walt’s father just by blood? Also, what were some of the questions that the Others were asking Michael for over a week?
6. Kevin – I caught the same fear in Walt’s eyes when Miss Klugh mentioned throwing Walt back into “the room”. He really clammed up after that.
7. Kevin – we’re thinking alike because I had the same question about Michael knowing who “Hugo” was. It doesn’t make sense. When Michael and Sawyer were on the raft, Sawyer was reading the messages in the bottle and after one of them, Sawyer said “Who’s Hugo and how is he worth $156 million dollars?” Thinking back, I think that Michael was asleep at the time. But Locke has been the only one to ever call Hurley “Hugo” and Hurley never questioned him about it. I am assuming that Locke saw the flight passenger list because he also has called Sawyer “James” many times. But how does Michael know?
8. But that’s not the real issue. The real issue is how do the Others know the names of the people? Ethan was supposed to compile a list but he didn’t (as we saw in Claire’s Island flashback). Did he compile a short list of just some of the passengers? Is there a mole in the group? Or did the Others know of the passengers even before the crash? Also, why these four? They are not all good – Kate and Sawyer have killed people. They are not the leaders – Jack, yes; Sawyer and Kate, maybe; Hurley, no – they would need Locke, Sayid and Ana-Lucia. So, why these four?
9. Who else thought that Libby was going to be on the list of names? That would explain Michael’s shocked look when he shot her.
10. Did Mr. Friendly say in this episode “Bring her out.” Or “Bring her our, Alex.”. I couldn’t remember. Interesting that Alex refused. In the earlier episode, I don’t remember seeing a female or male hand (enough to notice the gender) when Kate was brought out, but it would explain it if the hand was a male hand in the earlier episode.
11. What were the Others doing so far from their camp? It was over a day’s walk from where they captured Michael? If they were sending the message via computer, then maybe they went to intercept him, but that’s a stretch.
12. Miss Klugh asked Walt why he wanted Walt so bad when he hardly knows him? That was the same question that the lawyers asked Walt during one of his flashbacks.
13. Michael mentioned taking the boat. But why? Which boat? The speedboat that kidnapped Walt? How far can that boat travel? Does he think that all the Others got to the Island by boat?
14. Does Michael really believe that the Others will give back Walt? I know that he is a desperate father and that he would do anything to help Walt, but seriously. Hopefully, Michael will redeem himself by getting Walt back without getting any of our passengers hurt.
Random Thoughts (Island events):
1. I tried to read the piece of paper that Michael was burning in the beginning but couldn’t quite read it. Just as well, it may have ruined the surprise later on.
2. Mr. Eko always has interesting stories. So, he spent some time in a parish in England. That means that he traveled from Nigeria to England to Australia to Los Angeles. Anywhere else?
3. The vaccine was on the pallet (of the food drop?) and Charlie tried it! Claire sure looked scared when he told her that. It was nice to see Claire and Charlie get together at the end, but can Claire really trust him? Also, good catch, Kevin, about them possibly needing the heroin for painkiller later one.
4. Cool to see Mr. Eko’s necklace floating like Jack’s key. It looks like he will be moving into the hatch. Of course, who would try to stop him? He’s a big man.
5. Michael was very nervous talking to Sayid. Sayid caught on right away that something was wrong. Will Sayid take a team to follow Michael’s group into the jungle? Also, where is Locke going? I would have guessed that he was heading into the jungle to get ahead of Michael’s party but we saw him in the hatch next week in the previews. So, we’ll see.
6. I laughed when Sawyer said “Well, at least, now we get to kill somebody.” I immediately thought of the great movie “Stripes” and one of the lines from that movie: “All I know is that we finally get to kill somebody.” spoken by the great character Francis “Psycho” Sawyer! Can you believe it? Both named Sawyer!
Previews for next week:
1. “Run” – Jack to Michael’s party.
2. Gunshots
3. Clock counts down to 0
4. Airplane crash explained
5. Locke smashes computer
6. Didn’t see him, but Desmond is supposed to return. Is that his sailboat in the water?

Came across the Wikipedia site for yet another episode recap. Very thorough one...
Just a few more random thoughts:
The four people are the only ones who have seen a vision. Jack = Dad; Kate and Sawyer = Horse; Hurley = Dave. I am not counting Walt as a vision - it was more of a projection.
Someone (on some message board) said that Michael said Hugo instead of Hurley last night. Did anyone catch where?
Did the Others know when they captured Michael that they wanted Kate, Jack, Hurley, and Sawyer? If so, then they could have grabbed Jack, Kate and Sawyer when they were tracking Michael. The only person missing was Hurley. Locke was there but is not in the select group.
If you look at the pictures from the Black Smoke that confronted Mr. Eko, it looks like Miss Klugh appears.
Why did Michael keep the slip of paper? Surely, he could remember four names. Also, where did he keep this piece of paper? Miss Klugh stuffed it in his shirt pocket. But when Michael shot himself and stumbled out of the hatch to tell Jack, surely Jack would have cut the shirt off. Granted Jack would not be interested in going through someone’s pocket while he’s trying to perform make-shift surgery, but that’s a big risk that someone might see the note. Michael would probably have a lie ready for them in case they did see it, but it just seemed a little odd to have the note at all.
It appears that Ms. Clue was also in the images Eko saw in the smoke monster AND she's on the Australian healer's (Isaac)wall of fame. I don't know how to make the links active, but here they are to compare.

Also, is the name "Ms. Clue" a play on words? Are the writers offering is mistaken clues?
I love how the title of the episode ties into the 3 mintues Michael got to spend with Walt.
I'm betting that Desmond is on that sailboat next week. Maybe he found he couldn't get off the island after all.....
OK and this one is a bit out there, but think about it for a while before you decide.....
Assuming that the injections prevent disease is too easy. I think the real answer must be more surprising in true LOST style. What if the injections are not to prevent disease but to suppress psychic ability? The island is a place that increases the psychic ability of some people and the injections would stop that from happening. Remember we have never seen anyone get this so called island sickness that Danielle spoke of and nor do we know ANY of the symptoms. What if some people become too psychic? Who would be able to control such power or resist the urge to use it? That is why Danielle had to kill them to keep them from using their power for evil because they could not handle it.
Lastly, how do Locke and Michael heal so fast while unHenry doesn't?
Also, jimc, Charlie had visions too. Remember when he thought he was "rescuing" Aaron from the ocean.
I'm not sure if you'd classify them as visions or dreams, but Locke and Eko both had them in last week's episide "?".
And although we haven't been shown them, I'm pretty sure Rose had some sort of vision and/or premonition that Bernard was still alive.
I'm even more convinced that Desmond is on that boat. From Newsweek's article on the finale...
So, do you wanna know what we know about the finale? Skip this paragraph if you don't—though it's not as if we could solve the whole "Lost" riddle. But here are some tidbits. "We are going to tell you why the plane crashed," says Cuse. "We're going to explain what happens if you don't push the button. And we're going to resolve the Michael-and-Walt story." (Michael's son, Walt, was kidnapped by "the others" in last year's season finale and has been missing ever since.) Desmond, the enigmatic guy originally discovered in the hatch, also reappears, and he's not in good shape, though he gives the survivors fresh hope for escape. Just as last year's finale expanded our scope of the island's boundaries, this year's will expand its relevance. "There is something else that is reverberating on our planet that is directly linked to this island," says Monaghan. "You begin to understand that what is happening there has a significant butterfly effect in the rest of the world." One more thing: we think another character is going to die, or come close. It's just a hypothesis, based on the fact that when we asked Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) to guess which character would die after Libby, she said: "I can't do that, 'cause I know." Then she clammed up.
Here's the whole article.
